All forms of tuber flesh discoloration are recorded, according to SMAK's grading system, in the "internal discoloration" group. The only exceptions are when the cause of the condition is known, and these are recorded elsewhere.
A reddish-violet or bluish-violet discoloration of the tuber flesh can sometimes occur. The degree and extent of the discoloration can vary. The cause is unknown but it appears to be closely associated with variety and the influence of the weather and other factors on the crops.
