- Svensk Matpotatiskontroll AB, (The Swedish Tablepotato Control Agency LTD), popularly known as SMAK, was formed in 1953.
- Since 1991, Stiftelsen Potatisbranschen (The Foundation of Swedish Potato Trade) is the owner of SMAK.
- Researchers, growers, distributors and retailer are represented on The Foundations board.
- The organization is located in Stockholm. In addition, SMAK employs about 15 local inspectors throughout the country.
- SMAK offers distributors, retailer and growers to be participants of the SMAK quality system. The system is based on quality analysis before packaging of the potato lot. Our inspectors test the lot and then the packages are marked according to quality.
- SMAK is an official controlorganisation.

| SMAK has a registered trademark at the Patent- and Registration Office for the quality marking of table potatoes, the SMAK mark. The right to use the SMAK mark for the quality marking of table potatoes is granted to participants in the SMAK quality system. |
